My friend Judy and myself share Country Cottage Friend etsy shop. She has made these two adorable children's quilts. One is of Sesame Street characters, the other is of monkeys with the alphabet.
There are many different techniques used in these two quilts. Applique, embroidery, stippling, quilting and on the sesame street one there are fancy stitches. You can tell how much love she puts into them.
The sesame street one has all the soft baby colors while the alphabet one has your premier colors. The back of the sesame street quilt is once again the sesame characters with a soft pink background and it also has the alphabet.
The alphabet one has a baby blue background with baby monkeys, baby hippos, baby giraffes, baby tigers, and baby lions. Both are stippled quilted.
I wanted to share her work with you. She does some really cute things.
But her specialty is bags. She has a etsy shop called Judy's Bags. I hope you will check her out as she has just recently opened her shop and is added new items all along. http://judysbags.etsy.com/
Thank you for letting me tell you about my friend Judy today. I am sure you will be hearing more about her all along.
Good morning, today I would like to talk to you about something near and dear to my heart!
Breast Cancer. As many of you know one of my dearest friends and next door neighbor lost her battle with breast cancer last spring. So I thought in her honor I would take a minute and bring you a simple invation to help other women.
The breast cancer site has a simple program any of us can do. It does not cost you a dime. Just a minute of your time. Hopefully everyday.
When you go to there site http://www.thebreastcancersite.com/ you will see a pink box that says Donate a Mammogram just click on it. It is free. They are having trouble getting people to click on everyday. So please put this in your Favs. so you can click on everyday to help .
They donate at least one free mammogram a day to underprivileged women. Their corporate sponsors/ advertises use the number of daily visits to donate mammograms in exchange for advertising.
How easy is that to be able to help someones mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend or neighbor.
Just remember it effects the whole family. So your help will being going to so many women. As women I feel it is very important to help each other out and there is no simpler way then this. We all have a minute a day to help someone else!
My photo is of an embroidery pattern that I use 3 pink ribbons weaving Hope and a little girl holding a pink ribbon with her hand up saying STOP breast cancer. And the little girl in the hat needs no explanation!!
Thank you for all you do. And I will say thank you for all the women you will be helping. Please don't forget to pass on this information!
I couldn't believe it but while shopping in this nice little shop owned by two friends, I found this sweet set of dishes. They were hidden behind a sofa and you really had to look to see them. Thank goodness I did. Because they are Austrian made.
It is a place setting for 4 minus 2 teacups and 1 small bowl. They have a large covered serving bowl, a serving platter, a gravy boat and it's plate ( the handle on the gravy boat has been broken, but someone lovingly repaired it and you can hardly notice it now) there are 4 dinner plates, 4 luncheon plates, 3 small bowls, 4 cup saucers, 2 tea cups.
It is a red rose wreath pattern. It is fine china from Austria. It is such a good quality china as you can see in one of the pictures you can see my fingers and the pattern on the other side as I hold it up to the light.
The romantic side of me can envision a young women standing on a dock waiting for a ship with all her belongings. This set of china one of them. She is on her way to America to get married. This set of china is part of her dowry. She is on her way to a new and better life. But she is clinging to some of the finer things from her homeland. Her wedding china.
Thank you for stopping by I hope you enjoyed and we can meet again tomorrow.
This is a quilt that I am working on now for my Etsy shop. Heirlooms for you.
I still have to quilt it then scallop the edge and put the binding on it.
It is 45x45 inches. It is of multi colored squares. With one embroidery square in each row. The embroidery was digitized by Teriann at Kitty Kitty designs. This type quilt is one of my best sellers. Check out my sold items also when you check out the shop. This is the first one I have added embroidery squares to. I really like it and I am sure it wont be the last one. There are other embroidery quilts there but this is the first of this style.
Thank you again for stopping by and I hope we can talk again tomorrow.
Since it is strawberry season I thought I would give you a strawberry recipe today.
Fresh Strawberry Mouse
1 cup of strawberries, hulled
2 packages(3 ounces) strawberry gelatin
1 tablespoons sugar 1 cup of heavy whipping cream
Crush strawberries; drain and reserve juice.Set berries aside. Add enough water to reserved juice to measure 3/4 cup; pour into a sauce pan. Bring to a boil. In a small bowl, combine sugar and gelatin; add boiling juice mixture and stir until gelatin is dissolved. Cool completely. Stir in crushed strawberries. In a small bow, beat cream until soft peaks form; fold into berry mixture. Return all to the bowl. Cover and refrigerate for several hours or overnight. Before serving beat until fluffy.
Makes 2 servings.
Since strawberries are so plentiful this time of year I thought you might enjoy this one. It is nice and cool and easy to enjoy.
Thank you for stopping by and I hope to talk to you tomorrow. Carol
A couple of friends and myself are putting together a quilt for the Ovarian Cancer Clinic a friend of ours is having treatments at. The ribbon color for ovarian cancer is teal green. So far we have picked several teal color fabrics. We also decided to use a tone on tone cream with a Damask pattern in the teal color. We will decide what to use for the back material when we are finished. The quilt will be auctioned off. As of yet I don't know what the price of the tickets will be but I will tell you all about it as we get further along on it. I will keep you up dated as we make progress. We would love it if you would leave a comment and let us know what you think of what we have picked so far. I can't express enough the importance of your yearly exam. I have since learned and want to pass along for those of you who like me didn't realize but a pap test does not pick up ovarian cancer. You need to have a pelvic exam to start with. And some times it takes some other test to find it. As I talk about the quilt I will try and give you more information on ovarian cancer detection. As those of you who have followed me on my Etsy site know I lost a dear friend to breast cancer last May. So I think it is so important that we as women learn and help each other out as we go through this life together. Thank you for dropping by and hope to talk to you tomorrow.
I made these embroidery pillow cases. The first picture is of the one I made myself. It has my initials on it. The other picture is of one in my Etsy shop Heirloomsforyou. It says Always Kiss Me Goodnight. It has nine burgundy, pink and white orchids. There is three inch lace at the top and the bottom . It is a slip on pillow case, open on both ends. There is six inch lace on it's ends which really dress it up. I put it together with French seams so there are no loose seams.
I love doing heirloom work, embroidery, lace work, French seams, hem stitches and so much more. We will talk about all the different stitches as we go along.
Thank you for joining me today and hope we can talk tomorrow.
First thing in the morning I was in my yard planting Hostas and Zinnias. Then it was time to get ready to go to my mother in laws . Where all of my husbands family meets for Mothers Day. She has six children (my husband being the oldest) so it is a large gathering. They were not all there when we left as it is an all day thing. In and out.
I didn't get to visit with my mother as she lives in Florida. But we did get a nice couple hour visit on the phone.
My oldest son Mike and his daughter Baileah (almost 13) don't live close by either. But once again I did get to talk to them on the phone.
I thank the Good Lord my youngest Will and his beautiful wife Tiffany and their adorable daughter ( the apple of my and her PaPa's eye) do. This picture is of them at my house on Mothers Day. They gave me that lovely yellow rose you see in the other pictures. I can't wait to get it in the yard. I am sure you will be seeing more pictures of it during this summer season.
Then my husband Lyndsey took us all out for dinner. It is always good when we can get together.
Well that is all for today thank you for stopping by.
I had hoped to show you the roses in my yard today, but we have had a full week of thunder storms and hard rain. So my roses have not faired as well as I would have liked. The week before they were beautiful.
So instead I gathered the ones that were still pretty and brought them inside. I have them in my baby blue vintage vases in my foyer. In between them there is a vintage bowl with hand painted rose in it. I hope you can tell the ones I brought in from the yard match the ones in the bowl.
Hopefully later in the week I can get some pictures of my yard to share with you.
For now I hope all is well with you and we can talk more tomorrow.
I would like to share with you today one of my embroidery heirloom quilts. It is done on white tone on tone fabric. It only has 4 colors in the embroidery. White, pink, azalea pink and green dust. It is very soft in color but at the same time it shows up well.
There are 16 blocks and they are all different designs. I don't have enough room here to show them all. But because of the colors they all go together. I then quilted a square around each design. I finished the quilting with a hem stitch( not what you use for hemming pants) which is the name of the stitch which gives it a Lacey look. Which gives it that heirloom feel.
I love making these quilts. I have another started right now I hope you will check back to see it when I am finished. This one is bigger.
Don't forget to check out my Etsy shop that has this one and others and more to come. You can find the direct link at the bottom of this page.
My friend Judy and myself love to go "Junking." (one mans trash is another mans treasure) We are on the hunt for vintage finds. We are looking for, you name it and we are looking for it. The main thing I am looking for is tea pots and tea cups.
This Christmas past we girls went to a local tea room for lunch as our Christmas get together. When we entered the front door there was a Christmas tree with tea pots as decorations. I have since been on the hunt for tea pots for my own Christmas tree for this year. And I might say I am doing quite well. I will be sure to post pictures this Christmas season.
I also love to find pottery, yellow ware, depression glass, (mainly pink) crystal, candle holders. Who am I kidding? I love it all. I love the hunt. I will be sharing some of our finds from time to time. I hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
This picture is of the tea pots I have found so far this year. The top pictures are of my collection I have that I will pick from this Christmas. Plus any more that I might find before this Christmas.
I am so glad it is spring and soon to be summer I truly am not trying to rush time. It goes quickly enough without my help.
Thank you for stopping by I hope to talk to you tommorrow.
