Weekend Treasure Hunt

My friend Judy and I went off last Friday treasure hunting. We went to 3 different places. One was a yard sale right in my neighborhood. The lady use to have a shop in one of the shops we loved to go to. But because of the economy the store had to go out of business.

The lady having the yard sale was one of the people who rented a space. She is from Germany. She really had alot of nice things. I got from her a set of silver plated candlesticks, linens, 2 beaded bags, 2 pieces of crystal one a bowl and one a vase, 2 metal painted candle sticks very shabby chic, a bone china teacup, a pink vegetable bowl, and a hunter green leather travel jewelery case. I hit the jackpot there. I could have gotten a whole lot more , she really had some nice things, but I restrained myself.

The second place you have heard me talk about before. It is a small shop owned by 2 best friends. I found the Austrian China there.(I posted about in a older post) This time they only had a couple of piece of sets. First is the red rose pattern. They had 2 luncheon plates and 1 shaker. Even though it is just a piece of set I love it and it looks so nice in my china cabinet. Then I found a piece of set that is light blue roses bone china. There is 5 bread and butter plates, 5 cups with 2 saucers, and 5 white saucers. Some of this set is chipped. I don't mind because Iam thinking about a future mosaic project.

The 3rd place I found a couple of weeks ago. It is in the next town. about 20 miles away.(Which is very good because I can get myself in trouble in this one.) I took my friend Judy with me this time. I found a pretty china bowl with a red rose on both sides of it. It was a very good price because it was missing it's top. But I think it is still very pretty so it came home with me. She had a plain white teapot which I had to have for my Christmas tree (older post) I have some pretty pink rose decals so I may dress it up. Then I found a Royal Albert Bone China teacup. Made in England it is of the Enchantment collection. (Jack Pot!) I also picked up a couple of picture one is a painting, one a print. I will show those latter because the first trip I made there I picked up another one. So I will show all of them another time.

You will see some of these things in my Etsy shop MyVintageShop ( you can click right to it from the side panel)Some things will be staying for awhile at my house and some will be going into the shop. I like to list 1 thing a day. I hope you will check back from time to time to see what is new.

Thank you for dropping by and letting me share with you the fun Judy and I had.
Until the next time, Carol

Helen Steiner Rice

I would like to share with you some wise and refreshing words with you this beautiful Sunday morning.

The Fragrance Remains

There's an old Chinese proverb

that if practiced each day

Would change the whole world in a wonderful way.

Its truth is so simple, its easy to do,

And it works every time and successfully, too.

For you can't do a kindness without a reward--

Not in silver nor gold but in joy from the Lord.

You can't light a candle to show others the way

Without feeling the warmth of the bright little ray,

And you can't pluck a rose all fragrant with dew

Without part of the fragrance remaining with you.

Helen Steiner Rice

I hope you enjoy her as much as I do. Until the next time. Carol

Be such a woman

I love this quote and would like to share it with you today. As something to think about!

"Our world desperately needs faithful women who share the Good News of Jesus with joyful exuberance. Be such a woman. The world desperately needs your enthusiasm ~ and your testimony ~ now!"

HAPPY FATHERS DAY

To my sweetheart of 33 years who is someone worth crowing about!

He is the one I go to for everything. He maybe thinking what is she up to now, or this can 't or shouldn't be done. But after just a little persuasion He helps me.

We have raised 2 sons, who now each have a daughter each. He has been a wonderful Father all these years. And now is a spectacular Grandfather. They call PaPa.

He takes his vacation to spend with his granddaughters. The 13 year old lives in Indiana so he takes vacation to ride up to spend time with her or bring her back to stay with us for awhile. The youngest just turned 4 and he takes a week to take her to Florida so I can spend some time with my folks and she can see them so when she is older she will remember them.

So now you just are getting a glimpse of why I want to crow about my sweetie! I could go on for days.

HAPPY FATHERS DAY SWEETHEART!

Thank you for listening and I hope all the fathers out there have a wonderful day!

Until next time, Carol

Flowers from my yard

These plant is on my back deck. It is in a wash tub that I painted aqua blue ,which is my accent color because my house is a pink brick. It is called Solomon Seal . My 93 year old aunt Anna Mary gave it to me from her garden, Her gardens are beautiful. She had it in the shade and it was leggy and not very pretty. She called it her ugly plant so I still laugh and sometimes call it my ugly plant. But as you can see all it needed was plenty of sun light. As with all plants it is important to keep checking to find out where the perfect spot is for it.
These 2 roses are on the east side of my house. They are in the ground. I have more but they were not blooming . The roses below these are on the west side of my house. They all are in pots. My husband likes the flowers better in pots. I have to agree they are so much easier to take care of.

These 2 pictures are of my blue glazed pots with begonias. We pulled up the azaleas last fall and replaced them with these pots. I have Begonias in the summer and pansies in the fall and winter. This way I can have flowers across the front all year round. As you can see they go all the way across the front of the house. You can also see they are as tall as the steps.

these are some of the pots of Zinnias I have in my rock garden in the back yard.
Thank you for stopping by and until next time, Carol

Fairies in the Garden

My Granddaughter is turning 4 Saturday June 6Th. She is having her first all girl party. The theme is Fairies in the garden. She is having 5 of her little girlfriends over . They have planned to do, Fairy coloring, a fairy game, and a flower wreath to make for their hair. Her Mom is making her cake. I made 2 table cloths for the little tables the girls will be sitting at. They are of a embroidered Fairy in the garden. She is surrounded by lots and lots of roses. I also made 6 gift bags her mom will fill with goodies for them to take home.

I am so proud of my daughter in law she is so good at these things. I know she is going to make one little girl very, very happy. Not to mention 5 others.

Resting In His Way

Today I would like to share with you a poem from a book I have been reading lately, When I'm On My Knees.

Resting In His Way
When my weary body fails me,
And my mind is filled with strife,
When the world is pressing 'round me,
And I can not deal with life,

When I've taken on the burdens,
Far more than I should share,
I cry with broken spirit,
"Lord, don't others even care?"

In my darkest midnight hours,
I hear You calmly say,
"You must take My yoke upon you.
You must rest within My way."
Then my many cares I gather,
And I lay them at your feet.
Where I let your love surround me,
As my every need You meet.

Thank you for stopping by today. Until tomorrow, Carol

Childern's Quilts my friend Judy made

My friend Judy and myself share Country Cottage Friend etsy shop. She has made these two adorable children's quilts. One is of Sesame Street characters, the other is of monkeys with the alphabet.
There are many different techniques used in these two quilts. Applique, embroidery, stippling, quilting and on the sesame street one there are fancy stitches. You can tell how much love she puts into them.
The sesame street one has all the soft baby colors while the alphabet one has your premier colors. The back of the sesame street quilt is once again the sesame characters with a soft pink background and it also has the alphabet.

The alphabet one has a baby blue background with baby monkeys, baby hippos, baby giraffes, baby tigers, and baby lions. Both are stippled quilted.

I wanted to share her work with you. She does some really cute things.

But her specialty is bags. She has a etsy shop called Judy's Bags. I hope you will check her out as she has just recently opened her shop and is added new items all along. http://judysbags.etsy.com/

Thank you for letting me tell you about my friend Judy today. I am sure you will be hearing more about her all along.

Until tomorrow. Carol

Free Mammograms Saves Lives.

Good morning, today I would like to talk to you about something near and dear to my heart!

Breast Cancer. As many of you know one of my dearest friends and next door neighbor lost her battle with breast cancer last spring. So I thought in her honor I would take a minute and bring you a simple invation to help other women.

The breast cancer site has a simple program any of us can do. It does not cost you a dime. Just a minute of your time. Hopefully everyday.

When you go to there site http://www.thebreastcancersite.com/ you will see a pink box that says Donate a Mammogram just click on it. It is free. They are having trouble getting people to click on everyday. So please put this in your Favs. so you can click on everyday to help .

They donate at least one free mammogram a day to underprivileged women. Their corporate sponsors/ advertises use the number of daily visits to donate mammograms in exchange for advertising.

How easy is that to be able to help someones mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend or neighbor.

Just remember it effects the whole family. So your help will being going to so many women. As women I feel it is very important to help each other out and there is no simpler way then this. We all have a minute a day to help someone else!

My photo is of an embroidery pattern that I use 3 pink ribbons weaving Hope and a little girl holding a pink ribbon with her hand up saying STOP breast cancer. And the little girl in the hat needs no explanation!!

Thank you for all you do. And I will say thank you for all the women you will be helping. Please don't forget to pass on this information!

Until tomorrow thank you again.

Victoria Austria

I couldn't believe it but while shopping in this nice little shop owned by two friends, I found this sweet set of dishes. They were hidden behind a sofa and you really had to look to see them. Thank goodness I did. Because they are Austrian made.

It is a place setting for 4 minus 2 teacups and 1 small bowl. They have a large covered serving bowl, a serving platter, a gravy boat and it's plate ( the handle on the gravy boat has been broken, but someone lovingly repaired it and you can hardly notice it now) there are 4 dinner plates, 4 luncheon plates, 3 small bowls, 4 cup saucers, 2 tea cups.

It is a red rose wreath pattern. It is fine china from Austria. It is such a good quality china as you can see in one of the pictures you can see my fingers and the pattern on the other side as I hold it up to the light.

The romantic side of me can envision a young women standing on a dock waiting for a ship with all her belongings. This set of china one of them. She is on her way to America to get married. This set of china is part of her dowry. She is on her way to a new and better life. But she is clinging to some of the finer things from her homeland. Her wedding china.

Thank you for stopping by I hope you enjoyed and we can meet again tomorrow.

Work in progress

This is a quilt that I am working on now for my Etsy shop. Heirlooms for you.

I still have to quilt it then scallop the edge and put the binding on it.

It is 45x45 inches. It is of multi colored squares. With one embroidery square in each row. The embroidery was digitized by Teriann at Kitty Kitty designs. This type quilt is one of my best sellers. Check out my sold items also when you check out the shop. This is the first one I have added embroidery squares to. I really like it and I am sure it wont be the last one. There are other embroidery quilts there but this is the first of this style.

Thank you again for stopping by and I hope we can talk again tomorrow.

Fresh Strawberry Mouse

Since it is strawberry season I thought I would give you a strawberry recipe today.

Fresh Strawberry Mouse

1 cup of strawberries, hulled

2 packages(3 ounces) strawberry gelatin

1 tablespoons sugar 1 cup of heavy whipping cream

Crush strawberries; drain and reserve juice.Set berries aside. Add enough water to reserved juice to measure 3/4 cup; pour into a sauce pan. Bring to a boil. In a small bowl, combine sugar and gelatin; add boiling juice mixture and stir until gelatin is dissolved. Cool completely. Stir in crushed strawberries. In a small bow, beat cream until soft peaks form; fold into berry mixture. Return all to the bowl. Cover and refrigerate for several hours or overnight. Before serving beat until fluffy.

Makes 2 servings.

Since strawberries are so plentiful this time of year I thought you might enjoy this one. It is nice and cool and easy to enjoy.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope to talk to you tomorrow. Carol

Ovarian Cancer Quilt

A couple of friends and myself are putting together a quilt for the Ovarian Cancer Clinic a friend of ours is having treatments at.
The ribbon color for ovarian cancer is teal green. So far we have picked several teal color fabrics. We also decided to use a tone on tone cream with a Damask pattern in the teal color. We will decide what to use for the back material when we are finished.
The quilt will be auctioned off. As of yet I don't know what the price of the tickets will be but I will tell you all about it as we get further along on it. I will keep you up dated as we make progress.
We would love it if you would leave a comment and let us know what you think of what we have picked so far.
I can't express enough the importance of your yearly exam. I have since learned and want to pass along for those of you who like me didn't realize but a pap test does not pick up ovarian cancer. You need to have a pelvic exam to start with. And some times it takes some other test to find it. As I talk about the quilt I will try and give you more information on ovarian cancer detection.
As those of you who have followed me on my Etsy site know I lost a dear friend to breast cancer last May. So I think it is so important that we as women learn and help each other out as we go through this life together.
Thank you for dropping by and hope to talk to you tomorrow.
